Pastor’s Epistle: April Kairos

Here we are right in the middle of the most wonderful time of the year - when we celebrate the absolutely crucial event of history - the RESURRECTION OF OUR LIVING LORD.

Be sure to be with us for the great Easter Week-end, with Sunrise Service at 7:00 A.M. on Sunday and Morning Worship at 10:00 A.M. The resurrection of our Lord is the pivotal event of our Christian faith. Then we can be propelled to get to work on how we are going to live out the meaning of that Good News as a church and Christian Community. This means the WHOLE church. We hope you will be sure to plut this in your busy schedule so we can be the body of Christ in a responsible way. In order to do that we will begin the process on Sunday, April 6, 2008 with the morning worship. Pastor Dave will challenge us in the sanctuary and then move us into the fellowship hall for holy communion and more opportunities to get to know each other and to listen to what God is calling us to dream and imagine.

The following Saturday, April 12, from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. or so we will complete the process with more conversation and sharpening our awareness of the task before us. This will not be a wheel-turning morning, but a way to listen to God and to each other, and perhaps to put concrete ideas on the table to chew on...Infant and child care will be available by reservation if you call Jean at the church office (760-744-0170) by Friday morning at 10:00 A.M.the day before.

Thank you all for your tremendous cooperation during this interim time. You are helpful and willing to go the second mile and both pastors tremendously appreciate it. Let us keep at it to be with you at this time.

Please do pray for God's guidance about what we will do to plan for a solid Christian education program. No church can exist long without an effective education life. We spent much time on that last council meeting, but were unable to reach any concrete solutions.

Let us remember to pray for the roofing project, and to seek ways we can support it and fund it. We are close to signing a contract for its repair and applying for some financial help from the San Diego District.

Hey High Schoolers: Do you want an experience that will change your life? This summer, between the end of June and mid August, the Sierra Service Project will be doing work in Los Angeles that will help people in need, and touch your life as well. You will spend one week working with other teens to build porches, wheelchair ramps, and other stuff to help families in Los Angeles in need. And you will have fun in the evenings!

Through the years I have had the priviledge of going on work teams from Mexico, to Los Angeles, to other places in Southern California, to Appalachia and to South Africa. (My wife, Jan also went on work teams to Panama and South Carolina.) We took a bus of sixteen youth from our church in San Diego back to Appalachia where we worked on a school, homes, fed pigs, and repaired a car. On the road we visited Carlsbad Caverns and the Grand Canyon, and the Ozarks etc. It was a great time of service and being with friends.

If you are interested, check with the church office at (760) 744-0170. Pastor Dave Walker
